The kitchen and bathroom floors were still wet and our bathtub still had sewage and dirt in it. They had sprayed a “sanitizer” on the floor as well. He told us they found sewage and needed to keep it dry. The restoration tech in our apartment told us the de-humidifier needed to stay on as much as possible because they needed to dry the apartment. We realized we probably did need a place to stay that night, and figured Rentmaster would help us with that. We got back to the apartment around 10:30pm and were shocked to see that they had ripped up most of our carpet. One of our neighbors was texting with Cody and said we should probably find a place to stay that night, but we thought he was being dramatic. Before we left, they set up a huge de-humidifier and we said we would be back later that night to see what the result was and get some more info. We had decided to pack up some stuff and take Fiagro to my friend’s apartment in Rexburg while they were there. Around 5pm, a home restoration company named ServPro showed up. They soaked up our kitchen floor as best as they could. Bathroom floor Kitchen floor Carpet Carpet near the bathroomĪ maintenance guy from Rentmaster had already stopped by to check out the damage, and once I arrived home he came back about twenty minutes later and told us they were going to bring in some Shop-Vac’s to soak up some of the water. The water had drained out of the bathtub, but there was still debris all over. About 75% of our carpet was still soaked. Figaro, our cat, was laying on the bed and wouldn’t go on the floor. Cody had been able to pick up most of our belongings off the floor and put them in various spots around the apartment. It filled up our bathtub and soaked most of the carpet. I wasn’t there during the actual flooding, but Cody said the water started rushing in around the water heater in our bathroom and it was also running down the walls in the kitchen. There was a crazy rainstorm going on and since we live in a basement, the water had no other place to go. I was working a back to back shift and got a text from Cody around 1:45pm saying our apartment was flooding. On June 17th, 2018 our apartment flooded. (Wall heaters that got super hot if you left them on too long.) We used a small space heater in the winter but after a few months we had settled in and it felt pretty cozy. There were no laundry facilities, dishwasher, air conditioning, and the heating was sketchy. We paid for electricity and our internet as well, which added about $50 extra a month in utilities. The apartment was definitely not nice, which is why we only paid $350/month for it. Anthony, which is about fifteen miles north of Rexburg. Our apartment was an incredibly small basement studio in St. Cody ALWAYS made sure our rent was paid on time, if not early.

It always took them forever to send a maintenance guy to our apartment for repairs, but they were always nice and professional otherwise. I should begin by saying that before this incident we never had any serious issues with Rentmaster of Rexburg. Also, Rentmaster of Rexburg is NOT affiliated with Rentmaster of Idaho Falls. We received some legal advice over the phone from Idaho Legal Aid, but have decided not to pursue further legal action. *This post is purely our story/personal experience and opinions. I hope that it will help others and encourage them to educate themselves about their state’s landlord tenant laws and be prepared to protect themselves in case they ever need to. Honestly, I just wish this could all go away and I never had to think about it again, but I also feel strongly that others need to know what has happened to us.

I’m writing this post to get our story out there. As many of you know, Cody and I have been dealing with a situation with our landlord, Rentmaster of Rexburg, for almost a month now.
